A Blur of Orange: Meet Orbea’s Team Euskaltel-Euskadi:
Euskaltel-Euskadi, created in 1994, is perhaps the most recognizable team in cycling. The team has participated in eight Tours de France with numerous stage wins – Most recently in 2011. The boys in bright orange stand out not only because of their distinct kit, but for their aggressive riding style when the race points upward. Coming from the steep hills in the heart of the Pyrenees, the Euskaltel riders are born to climb. The team is unique in its approach in that it only recruits riders from the Basque Country of northern Spain. This presents unique challenges in forming a team, but it also has built a passionate fan base that is unlike any other in the world. The orange-clad Euskadi fans flock to the mountain stages of Le Tour and La Vuelta, creating an overwhelming orange tide that drowns out the competition.
